Library for students

BuBlife-live the BUB: a less formal way, or, if possible, less institutional designed to make us better know our regulars and occasional users, trying to tell the behind the scenes of a large library that provides the tools for cultural development and research, but that culture produces, thanks to a job which is still unknown or barely visible. The Library is located in the Palace of Wisdom, the ancient seat of the University of Pisa, and even today many institutes of the Faculty of Law. Located in the historic city center is easily reachable from the station.

The Library follows the following schedule:

Monday to Friday: 8.15 – 19.15 and Saturday: 8.15 – 13.30.

Faculty for science and technology

The Faculty of Science and Technology is characterized, from its origins to the development of vocational courses of study far. The professional courses produced by activated (biology, biotechnology, Geologist, Information, and Restoration Ecologist) correspond to specific professional sectors. Following the implementation of the Ministerial Decree 270/04, new training programs provide for various degree courses on completion of the main educational sectors: professional figure of the ‘”Environmentalist of climate change’, a characteristic of our faculty and of the professional geologist and biologist. In particular, the path of Biology provides two curricula which identify two professional fields (medical biologist and the biologist and nutritionist) and a direct path to the formation of the researcher in molecular biology. The path to the territory of Geology provides the scientific instruments that will enable the Graduates of being able to make decisions regarding the design and interdisciplinary geological independently with specialists from other sectors. The reform of legal systems has started a process of profound change in the characteristics of the educational priority with the aim of creating learning paths (in Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology and Geology) more effective, more relevant and in step with the ‘ evolution of their respective professions in the world of work.

 

The Faculty Finally, being highly engaged in applied research, has developed a remarkable number of advanced scientific research as doctorates and professional degrees of all the Magisterial (fields: Biology, Environmental, Geological, Chemical and Biochemical-Biotechnology) accompanied by an annual planning several contracts for the continuation of the experience of checks aimed toward the development of PhD projects of applied research, to allow for a significant proportion of students who finish the course 3 +2, to be able to better qualify to enter the world of work .

Academic Calendar

The academic calendar is approved annually by the Academic Senate. The document indicates the suspension of activities for all the Holidays. On the latter point, the Faculty may decide otherwise, the exercise of their educational autonomy. It is a document that summarizes the information relating to periods of the academic year in which the lessons take place, examinations, training sessions and other events typical degree of life teaching.

 

Most of the faculty of the University has adopted the system six months (approximately from October 1 to January 31 and March 1 to May 31). Only the Faculty of Engineering has an academic calendar is divided into three teaching periods. There are two holiday periods during the year, which interrupt the lessons: the Christmas and Easter, in addition to the summer vacation between the ends of July beginning next academic year.

The Course Program: The course aims to provide the concepts and basic principles of classical mechanics, one of the major branches of physics, fundamental to all its branches but also for other disciplines such as biology. How are first presented an introduction on the units of physical quantities and their representation as scalars and vectors. The mechanics of solids, once defined the main kinematic quantities, such as position, displacement, velocity and acceleration, is developed by describing the main types of motion, and finally reaches to the concepts of force and mass and the fundamental principles of dynamics are then defined the work done by a force, kinetic energy, potential and mechanical and relations between these quantities. The fluid mechanics is treated starting from the definition of the variables affecting them, such as density and pressure, then to introduce the main physical laws that govern fluid statically and fluid dynamics.

Given the need for basic knowledge for access to courses, anticipating the requirements of the last reform of teaching, the Faculty organizes a number of years of mathematics courses, training for the recovery of debt, for students of the Undergraduate programs in order to overcome deficiencies in basic training that some of the high school show, and allow more rapid integration into the fabric of the students of the Faculty.
